History of Drive for Discovery

Honoring Gayle Newgren

In 2020 the family of Gayle Newgren, in collaboration with the Grand View League, created the Golf For Gayle Tournament to raise funds for American Cancer Society. After two successful years, this tournament has been rebranded to Drive for Discovery to provide an even greater connection to the work of American Cancer Society and its other fundraising efforts.

Gayle was passionate about her family, golf, and the work of American Cancer Society. In 2019 Gayle had a recurrence of her cancer and, within a few months, lost her battle. We will continue the fight in her memory. She enriched each of our lives in countless ways.  Her light-hearted humor, spunk, and effervescence will remain in our memories always.

Cancer does not discriminate.  It touches everyone.  It becomes very personal when it touches our families, friends, and colleagues. We all have our own connection to cancer and reason for participating in the Drive for Discovery and encourage you to use this event as an opportunity to amplify the work of American Cancer Society and the ways in which we can all volunteer, donate, and serve those fighting this battle.

"As you walk down the fairway of life you must smell the roses, for you only get to play one round." - Ben Hogan
